With only a few more days to go in the dublab Proton Drive (deadline is this coming Tuesday!) they need all the help they can get to rally some more donations! So what better way to get you into the spirit of opening your checkbooks, than some good tunes.

Javelin cruised into the dublab studio for a stunning session in support of the DUBLAB DECADE PROTON DRIVE fundraiser. Their new, live action is like a day-glo disco soundsystem energetically exploding into a million rays of right-on light. Dig this version of “on it on it” and look forward to a full-flossed-out final version on Javelin’s upcoming release on Luaka Bop due in April 2010. Expect Hall & Oates (haulin’ oats).

Many thanks to Javelin for their creativity and support of dublab. We hope their positive energy inspires you to take action and give a proton grant today!

An Exclusive: Buyepongo’s at the Eagle Rock Music Festival

Monday, October 26th, 2009

At this year’s 11th Annual Eagle Rock Music Festival, Buyepongo took part of the dublab’s “Future Roots”stage, curated by DUBLAB as part of their VTech sponsored week-long 10th Anniversary Celebration series around the city of Los Angeles.

The young and energetic cumbia band Buyepongo was a stand out during this free, community street festival. These cats had the block bumping with their vibrant sounds steeped in the tradition of sweat and rhythm but flying into the future through the ears and bodies that bounced in the moment.  Peep this exclusive video and become a fan yourself. The music speaks for itself.

Dublab brought Parallelograms and Linda Perhacs to the Redcat

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

Linda Perhacs and Friends

It was a celebration of the wonderous folk rock explorations of Linda Perhacs. The LA Weekly recently dubbed Perhacs’ legendary 1970 album, Parallelograms, “..one of the most mystifying and beautiful moments of the psychedelic era, on par with any outré work of the time.” The night we witnessed was one of creative exploration that highlighted Perhacs’ incredible album ad the book that inspired it- Turn of the Century Theosophist manifesto, Thought Forms (first published in 1901 by Annie Besant). Perhacs’ songs, as well as the science and philosophies of this incredible century-old tome, provided the backdrop for an array of experimental film and projected artworks as well as live musical and dance interpretations of Perhacs’ work were done by a variety of contemporary artists. It truly was an evening of joy and inspiration.

In the house we had Linda Perhacs, Mia Doi Todd, We Are The World, Tom Brosseu, Julia Holter, Crystal Antlers, Ryan Heffington, Hecuba, and much more. Here’s a look back at what was one magical evening.

Come Along and Download This Fros-tastic Voyage

Monday, October 19th, 2009

Though Dublab’s Ten Day 10th Anniversary Extravaganza has ended, the tunes have not. Our good friend Frosty over at Dublab has been kind enough to send over some music to help us deal with our dublab withdrawal symptoms and the summer/fall weather transition. And though we might be saying good bye to sunshine and shorts and a big hello to layered sweaters and slowly fading tans, music is good all year long.

So here’s frosty’s VTech Sound Voyage for you to enjoy.
