Behind the Scenes with D+T and Jonsi
by Joy on Mar.12, 2010, under Behind the Scenes, D & T, Magazines, Video
Here’s a new video from our friends over at Death and Taxes Magazine featuring Jonsi. Jonsi who is the front man of ethereal pop group, Sigur Ros is going solo. His first solo album, titled “Go,” will be released on March 23rd, 2010.
Although the majority of Sigur Ros’s music could be described as melancholic and sullen, despite being a bit psychedelic, the songs on “Go” are joyful and radiant, showing Jonsi’s sunnier and more vivacious side. As owner of one of the most distinct voices in music, on his solo record, Jonsi has opted to sing in English instead of Hopelandic, the language he invented for Sigur Ros.
Watch and enjoy.

Maybe you’ll try the recipe out yourself over the holidays and let us know how it works out.

What’s Up With The Biz?
by Joy on Nov.23, 2009, under Behind the Scenes, Festivals, Filter, Magazines, Video, VooDoo '09
Here’s a look behind the scenes with the one and only Biz Markie. Biz was in New Orleans with us, rocking the wheels of steel on stage for the VTech/Filter kickoff party at the Howlin’ Wolf for the start of the Voodoo Music Experience weekend. He played the classics, did a little beat-box, and teased us with a few lines from “Just a Friend.” And after all was said and done, Filter TV talked a bit with the Biz to find out what he’s been up to.
So here it is, check it!

Rocking Out with Ghostland Observatory
by Joy on Nov.20, 2009, under Events, Magazines, Photo, VTech
Last night was one of those nights. Choices had to be made. You could have A) waited in line with a bunch of tweens who stayed up past their bedtime to watch the new Twilight movie, New Moon or B) waited in line with a bunch of electro funk music loving fans and watch the energetic duo from Austin rock out SPIN on Sunset at the Key Club. Dilemma right? I opted for B. And though I had a moment of uncertainty when I was being crushed by the crowd who were desperately vying for front row viewing, the moment Aaron Behrens and Thomas Turner aka Ghostland Observatory took the stage, any doubt was wiped away.
When Turner came out on stage in his Count Chocula cape, and Behrens grabbed the mic to perform their first song, it was the best of both worlds. The packed crowd went wild. Guys dressed in capes, one dressed as a banana, the blinding flashes of dozens of cameras, you could tell it was going to be one of those nights. And the energy in the audience continued to rise as Behrens gyrated for the crowd, strutting up and down the stage to their cheers.
You had to be there. But if you weren’t, here’s a quick photo recap and next time, keep it here on the Sounds of VTech and don’t miss out.
