The Timeless Concert Series wasn’t just a series of stunning performances. All the shows were framed by our favorite DJs. Madlib, JRocc, Houseshoes and Quantic all came with amazing sets. Cut Chemist even raised the bar with a one turntable romp.
On the eve of the Verocai show, DJ Nuts was supposed to perform with Madlib. He made the arduous journey from Brasil after completing a show with Marcelo D2. He endured a punishing series of flights that took 20 hours to complete, and in the end, a plane delay caused him to miss his own set at the start of the show.
In a pinch, J.Rocc stepped up to the plate and performed a stellar set at the Luckman in his place, and Nuts went on to DJ a mind-blowing two hour set at the after-party.
So much of Mochilla’s dealings in Brasil would not have been possible without Rodrigo Teixera (known to the world as DJ Nuts). The Verocai concert surely would never have happened without him. His role in helping with the pre and post co-ordination was enormous.
DJ Nuts is an astute and rigorous historian of Brasil’s vast and varied musical culture. His record collection is legendary; his skills as a DJ are world class. We commissioned him to make this mix to help people understand the extraordinary legacy of Verocai. Many by now know Verocai’s self-titled album, some even know the more popular compositions and arrangements, but none have dug as hard as Nuts. Years of collecting and a strong friendship with Verocai himself have made this historic mix possible. 78 minutes of all Verocai compositions and arrangements is a dream come true.
For such a mix to be made, only a true Brasilian music aficionado could have created this, and we are honored to be able to share it with you.

That was a incredible post,I recently subscribed to your feed.
Takes me up to very high of HIGH, if you know what I mean.
There was a track from 00:18:20 to 00:20:50 – what is that track title?
Great post,I recently subscribed to your rss feed.
18:20 to 20:50 is By the Golden Boys, it’s called A Menina E A Fonte. Shouts go out to the dudes on Soul Strut for that tracklist again….
Bacana! estou feliz da vida em ouvir.
I’m in love with this mix. Anyone know the song at 39:24-41:42 It is so beautiful. Not on the song list on soul strut unfortunately.
I found the singer but cant find the song name. It’s sung by Lucinha Lins composed by Ivan Lins.
The song at 39:24 is called “Esse Passaro Chamado Tempo,” by Lucinha Lins. It’s immediately followed by Johnny Alf’s version of “Um Gosto de Fim,” which also features Ivan Lins on piano and vocal.
By the way, the track at 50:48 is Milton Nascimento’s composition “Beco do Mota,” performed here by Marlene.
Duane you have just made my day! now all i need to know is the song just before Jorge Ben’s “Porque e proibido pisar na grama” & who did the version of Catavento right at the end of the mix.
[...] Check this cheery mix! [...]
Malik, glad to be of help. I’m still trying to figure out the track before Jorge Ben, but I haven’t had any luck yet. Regarding the version of “Catavento” near the end of the mix, here are a few thoughts of mine- this recording sounds very recently-made and has a “home studio” feel to it, unlike the other tracks which are generally from the late 1960’s to early 1970’s. The “Happy Birthday, Nuts” greetings at the end of the track sound like they were done by the singer and guitarist on this track, which leads me to believe that this is a private, non-commercial recording made for DJ Nuts by friends of his. This might explain why no one has yet figured out who the artist is.
I checked the Soul Strut forum, but no one has updated the tracklist in a long time. Curiously, no one has bothered to provide the name of the first Anamaria & Mauricio track, which is “Mandato,” from the A & M Volume 2 LP.
If DJ Nuts is reading all these comments, he’s probably smiling at all the attention this mix is getting!
He deserves the attention! this mix is excellent! Thanks for id’ing that Ana maria & mauricio track too, i think it was mentioned on there, but not explicitly identified. Maybe you should update it on that forum yourself? If you could direct me in the way of somewhere i could hear that Lucinha Lins track i’d be very grateful as well.
