VTech presents Behind The Scenes: Making the cover of Death+Taxes

VTech and D+T magazine

have teamed up to give you a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the making of a magazine cover. This month features singer St. Vincent.

St. Vincent aka Annie Clark, is a singer-songwriter from Tulsa, Oklahoma. A Berklee College of Music dropout she’s a former member of The Polyphonic Spree and Sufjan Stevens’ touring band .

Two years ago, Clark released her debut album, “Marry Me” on Beggars Banquet Records. which featured appearances from drummer Brian Teasley (Man or Astro-man?, The Polyphonic Spree), Mike Garson (David Bowie’s longtime pianist), and horn player Louis Schwadron (The Polyphonic Spree) and instantly people noticed. Media outlets from Pitchfork to Spin to New York Times Magazine stood up in their seats as the album’s arrangements and elegant lyrics entranced them. The record was a success and lead to Clark’s win at the PLUG Award’s where she captured the award for Female the Year.

She’s recently released  her sophomore album for Beggars Banquet, entitled  “Actor”. This album was written entirely by Clark and producer by Clark and John Congleton of The Paper Chase.  With a hint of sophistication and new ambitions, plus stronger arrangements, this album inspired by some of her favorite films leaves fans with eleven tracks filled with cinematic musical masterpieces. Listening to her might just be better than going to the movies…  get the popcorn ready.
